LONG BEACH, CA, August 18, 2012 (Press-News.org) No, there will be no breach of child labor laws despite the fact that 10 youth volunteers from the nonprofit Team Kids will take the place of servers, hosts, food runners, busboys and even chefs on Wednesday, September 5 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. to kick off a 3-week fundraiser at Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill at South Coast Plaza. The event is being held to launch Chile Fest, the restaurant's homage to the Hatch, New Mexico festival that for more than 4 decades has celebrated chile peppers and the versatile role they play in the culinary world. Available from Sept 4-23, $1 from each item sold on the Chile Fest menu will be donated to Team Kids, a nonprofit based in Irvine that encourages local youth to become involved in community and charitable work. Executive Chef Daniel Stevens said that each item from the special menu will contain at least 1 type of chile pepper.
Since 2001, Team Kids involved 43,000 public school students in various projects, which have raised more than $330,000 for local nonprofits that support children and families.
