PORTLAND, OR, August 26, 2012 (Press-News.org) Garvey Schubert Barer added Jonathan Cavanagh as an associate in its Tax and Benefits Group.

Most recently with Thornton Byron LLP, Cavanagh represents clients in tax controversy matters before the Internal Revenue Service and state taxing authorities. During law school, he served as a law clerk to governor's counsel for the Governor for the State of Oregon. He practiced as a Certified Public Accountant for Moss Adams prior to law school. 
In his practice, Cavanagh advises on business transactions for methods and strategies to increase tax efficiencies. In addition, he counsels on structure and formation of new business entities, as well as acquisitions divestitures. He also handles advanced estate and gift planning, including charitable and business succession planning.
Cavanagh earned his LL.M. in taxation law from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, his. J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law and his B.B.A. in accounting from the University of Portland.
