Portland Precision's New Zeiss Inspection Equipment Ensures Quality

With newly acquired, top of the line inspection equipment, Portland Precision has boosted their quality control capabilities to the industry's upper echelon.

2012-08-31
PORTLAND, OR, August 31, 2012 (Press-News.org) Portland Precision Manufacturing Company is using the latest Zeiss Contura G2 CMM inspection equipment for quality control purposes. This equipment ensures that their customers' precision machined parts meet all tolerances and dimensional requirements within three microns.

Since 1967, Portland Precision has delivered versatile, advanced contract CNC precision machining for customers throughout the Northwestern United States. From their 20,000 square foot machine shop in Portland, Oregon, the company provides full service manufacturing, short run machining, and prototype machining services. Portland Precision strives to be not the biggest CNC precision machining provider in the region, but the best, and pride themselves on the high quality of their products and their competitive pricing.

Due to the nature of the company's customer base—which includes clients in optical, aerospace, and other highly technical and scientific industries—maintaining tight tolerances is a key concern. Use of the Zeiss Contura G2 has elevated Portland Precision Manufacturing's quality control capabilities to a higher plane. "We've increased our inspection capabilities to match our machining capabilities," said Ralph Southmayd, General Manager at Portland Precision. "We've always been able to machine tight tolerance parts. Now we have the ability to accurately, consistently, and quickly check them at the same high levels."

The new Zeiss inspection equipment is faster, the programming is simpler, and it removes the possibility for human error, Southmayd added. "This new machine gives us and our customers even more confidence in our ability to machine tight tolerance parts."

Portland Precision also offers quality inspection services for parts made by other manufacturers. Southmayd stated that, "No matter who made your parts, we can check them against your design specs for proper precision and dimensional tolerances".
