LOS ANGELES, CA, September 08, 2012 (Press-News.org) Osiris Entertainment and Coydog Films announce the release of LETTING GO beginning October 2 on DVD, Digital and On-Demand. LETTING GO stars director/writer/producer Jake Torem, Christopher Knight (MY FAIR BRADY, THE BRADY BUNCH), Shirly Brener (RIGHTOUS KILL), Bokeem Woodbine (RAY), Todd Stashwick (YOU, ME AND DUPREE), Eliza Roberts (ANIMAL HOUSE), Jade Henham (LOOKING THROUGH LILLIAN), Peter Scolari (THE POLAR EXPRESS, Newhart) and legendary music producer David Foster. A film about self-discovery and recovery from life's toughest obstacles, LETTING GO won Best Romantic Comedy at the 2012 Houston International Film Festival; was featured at Dances with Films; and will be a winner at TrindieFest later this month in Colorado.
Challenged in love, strangled at work, and tormented at home, Joel Slater (played by Torem, a newcomer to the screen, with the savvy and intensity of a seasoned actor who delivers one hook after another) searches for a way to juggle all three with the help of three large, clumsy and loveable rescue dogs. Despite his love for his four-legged friends, Joel looks to save his relationship with girlfriend April (Brener) in any way he can - even by giving up his dogs for adoption. His final decision and the path to it—which he reaches through his best friend (Knight), dog trainer (Scolari) and others—give Joel a new "leash on life."
Torem started writing the film with the truth: losing his Dad after a prolonged battle with brain cancer. "Following my father's passing," he explains, "the simplest decisions became overwhelming - I had spiraled to a bottomless pit of grief. Focusing on LETTING GO provided an opportunity to find clarity and share a unique cathartic experience with others."
"We like to say 'we rescue them' but it's really our pets who rescue us," Torem continues. Writing, directing and acting in the film, Torem used a number of production techniques during the production. The hand-drawn animated diary advances the narrative and the film's four-legged stars Dragon (a St. Bernard), Ted (a half-coyote) and Hurricane (a Rottweiler) -- bring raw emotion and excitement to the storyline.
Torem concludes, "It's never too late to find happiness and peace of mind, even if sometimes it comes in unexpected shapes, species and sizes. I hope this film will inspire others to help themselves by helping each other.''
