LateRooms.com - View Watershed Exhibition in Cairns

A new exhibition featuring the works of Michael Hodgkins will open in Cairns in the coming weeks.

2010-10-08
CAIRNS, AUSTRALIA, October 08, 2010 (Press-News.org) Art enthusiasts heading to Cairns next month will have the opportunity to see an exhibition that depicts the diversity of environmental life in the region.

Watershed, a collection of the latest works of Michael Hodgkins, will be on display at the city's Tanks Arts Centre between October 16th and November 9th 2010.

People who head out from their Cairns hotels to view the installation will be treated to an array of images that illustrate the diversity of tropical north Queensland, featuring everything from its rainforests to its seaside areas.

Urban landscapes and "pea-soup bushlands" are also a feature of the exhibition, the venue explained.

According to the art space, the region's landscape is typified "by rivers and streams, which change the shape of the landscape as they slowly make their way in various forms ... to the sea".

These watercourses - which vary from rivers and streams to lakes and billabongs - are juxtaposed with man-made structures, the organisers remarked.

No entrance fee is required to view the exhibition, which is open each weekday between 09:00 and 16:30 local time.

Visits on a Saturday and Sunday can be made between 10:00 and 15:00.

Tanks Arts Centre is located on Collins Avenue in Edge Hill, about 4km north of Cairns CBD.

For more information on this event, visit the Tanks Arts Centre website or contact the venue on (+61) 7 4032 6600.

New Nitrile Glove Lowers Risk of Dermatitis in Health Care Workers

New Nitrile Glove Lowers Risk of Dermatitis in Health Care Workers
2010-10-08
Healthcare workers depend on gloves to keep them safe from bloodborne pathogens. But gloves can cause skin irritation or allergy in the health care worker as well as the patient. Due to increased latex sensitivity and allergy to natural rubber latex, many health care facilities have moved to non-latex glove options, including nitrile gloves. However, because of the chemical additives used during the manufacturing process, even nitrile gloves can cause irritant contact dermatitis as well as the more serious Type IV chemical allergy.
