BALAM Dance Theatre (BALAM) premieres Dancing Empire: Four Centuries of Spanish Dance, a new program celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. This spectacular program will be presented at the Leonia Public Library, located at 227 Fort Lee Road in Leonia, New Jersey, on Saturday, October 13 from 2:00-3:00 p.m.The event is free and open to the public. BALAM, a New York City-based company, offers a new vision of contemporary dance by fusing ballet, modern and diverse cultural dance styles from around the world with Balinese theatre.
This program features Inma Heredia, the world's first and only Flamenco standup comedian and BALAM's Resident Guest Actor, as host and entertainer. The dancers performing in this special program are Barbara Romero, guest artist and co-director of Danzas Españolas; Carlos Fttante, artistic director of BALAM; and Robin Gilbert, BALAM principal ballerina

The New Jersey audience will be entertained by the rich diversity of Spanish dance and culture through a sophisticated line-up of traditional and original dance choreographies in different styles, including Spanish Renaissance and Baroque, Sephardic, Escuela Bolera, Andalusian Folk-Flamenco, and an original BALAM mask dance. Heredia, graced with her critically acclaimed "salero", charismatic charm and humor, will add to this eclectic mix performing popular Spanish songs.
Inma Heredia
From Seville, Spain, Heredia has trained at the London's Stopgap Theatre Company, the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, among others. She has performed for industry luminaries, including Academy Award winners Olympia Dukakis and Pedro Alomodovar; Academy Award nominee Alfonso Cuarón; and actors Eve Ensler and Alfred Molina.
Her many television credits include appearing on Supercanal, Telemundo, Univision, HBO's Latino Habla and Habla Ya campaigns, Comedy Central, and the 2001 and 2002 Latin Grammy Awards. Heredia has performed at the United Nations in the Culture for Peace And Public Service Day, the legendary Apollo Theatre and the Comedy Store in Hollywood.
