SCOTTSDALE, AZ, October 12, 2012 (Press-News.org) Hundreds of thousands of queries for laser hair removal are submitted to search engines each month. Remus Repta, M.D., a board-certified plastic surgeon and the medical director of Scottsdale Skin Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona, says that men and women searching for laser hair removal should carefully consider the qualifications of the person performing the procedure.
"Women and men come to us for laser hair removal in Scottsdale because today's laser technology has made this a very effective procedure," says Dr. Repta. He stresses, however, that good results are dependent on more than the technology.
The health of the patient and the results of the procedure are reliant upon the skill and knowledge of the person operating the laser device. Hair removal performed with lasers and other light-based devices is not always well-regulated, and is common in non-medical settings like beauty salons and day spas. Over-the-counter laser hair removal systems are even available to consumers. Without proper knowledge or training, the risk for harm increases.
"A qualified physician or a trained specialist operating in a medically based facility has the medical knowledge and experience to be able to perform the procedure safely and effectively," says Pablo Prichard, M.D., a board-certified plastic surgeon and co-medical director of Scottsdale Skin Institute. "Different skin types and hair colors require unique treatments, and there is other pre-treatment preparation that patients should be aware of. A trained specialist will know the correct methods to achieve the best outcome."
At their med spa in Scottsdale, laser hair removal is performed by Cindy Semerdjian, a certified laser specialist and skin care expert.
"I've successfully performed hundreds of laser hair removal treatments at our Scottsdale med spa with great results," says Semerdjian, who trained in the United Kingdom under leading European skin care experts and further developed her skill in Europe, Dubai and the United States. "Without a properly trained practitioner, patients may be at risk for burns, skin discoloration, or simply unsatisfying results."
Dr. Repta stresses that patients should find a facility that is supervised by a physician. "Our medspa is operated under the direction of two board-certified plastic surgeons," says Dr. Repta. "This is the type of environment where people can feel confident undergoing laser hair removal or other treatments." The medspa provides popular cosmetic treatments such as laser hair removal, CoolSculpting, Ultherapy, chemical peels and BOTOX in Scottsdale.
The Scottsdale Skin Institute is a medical spa in Scottsdale, AZ that offers spa and skincare services as well as an array of non-surgical aesthetic treatments. All procedures are performed by a highly trained staff led by board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Remus Repta and Dr. Pablo Prichard. The institute's facilities include treatment rooms for individualized skincare services and a luxurious "relaxation room" in lieu of a traditional waiting area. In addition to offering non-surgical procedures, Scottsdale Skin Institute works in conjunction with Advanced Aesthetic Associates in Phoenix to provide cosmetic and reconstructive surgery for the face and body.
