RALEIGH, NC, October 20, 2012 (Press-News.org) The North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association (www.ncvma.org) has announced the release of a podcast discussing ways to recognize and prevent animal ear infections. Dr. Scotty Gibbs, DVM, owner of Hilltop Animal Hospital and president of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association, provides advice on how to determine if a pet has an ear infection and helps identify the main causes. In the podcast, Gibbs notes that ear infections are often a symptom of a more serious underlying condition, however they can generally be easily diagnosed and treated if they are caught in time. Additionally, Dr. Gibbs discusses natural and owner-related causes of ear infections such as allergies or overzealous cleaning and calls attention to common warning signs and symptoms. The podcast is available to download here: http://bit.ly/Qw0K8Q.
QUOTES:
"Ear infections can affect dogs or cats of any age and breed, making this type of infection a common problem for many pet owners," said Dr. Gibbs. "It is incredibly important to recognize and be aware of the symptoms associated with ear infections because they can often be a sign of an underlying disease or larger problem. Furthermore, infections left untreated can spread to the inner ear canal causing severe long-term effects. As a pet owner, knowing what to expect when a dog or cat has an ear infection is absolutely crucial."
