AFN Security Wins "Excellence in Innovation" Award at NG Mining Summit

Top Level Execs Vote Security Company as Best Innovator

2012-10-25
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, October 25, 2012 (Press-News.org) AFN Security, distributor and integrator of surveillance and alarm technology, has won the award for "Excellence in Innovation" at the NG Mining Summit, held from October 16-18 at the Stamford Grand in Adelaide last week.

Following a high-energy educational workshop, AFN Managing Director, Darren Ruger, learned top level Australian and international mining executives voted AFN as an innovative leader in security technology for the industry at the close of the event.

"We're very pleased to have been recognised by such a distinguished group," says Ruger, "We'd like to thank the attendees for taking the time to listen and understand the value of our solutions and the positive impact it will have on mining businesses."

In a presentation before executives that included - to name a few - representatives of Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton, Adani Mining, Golden Cross Resources and Birchfield Coal, Ruger focused on the benefits of IP camera technology, HD resolution, Video analytics to improve operations, increase OH&S compliance and secure assets, in addition to EDGE technology as the future of security, Ruger addressed various business challenges affecting the mining sector currently, most notably, managing risk and improving operational effectiveness.

"Video surveillance is an operational tool," says Ruger, "not just a security mechanism."

Highlighting facial recognition, licence plate recognition and advanced object tracking as video surveillance analytics that will streamline mining operations and cut cost, Ruger claims that HD video is also "absolutely necessary to produce solid data" from those analytics.

An industry expert in video analytics, Ruger says mines can "track and monitor specific people, vehicles and objects through entry points or in designated areas," in such applications as induction computers, site access, entry access, weigh station monitoring, vehicle locations, traffic flow, OH&S alerts, object conveyance, speed tracking, vehicle routing, and many others to improve operations.

Ruger also ensures that AFN "solutions provide a way to manage, audit and report on OH&S standards" on an enterprise level across multiple sites, which "is essential for mining businesses as so many are multi-national organisations."

With the mining industry facing some interesting economic challenges , Ruger's message was well received with Summit delegates seeking ways to improve performance and reduce cost, insisting, "if the [mining sector] are not deploying sites with HD camera technology and analysing data from analytics, [they] are making a critical error in business that needs to be rectified immediately to improve bottom line."
