PRINCETON, NJ, November 10, 2012 (Press-News.org) Emergencies are nothing new for fleet managers. In their line of work, they are routinely counted upon to keep businesses and municipalities moving during periods of snow storms, hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, and any other type of natural disaster. NAFA Fleet Management Association, a not-for-profit association of fleet managers throughout the United States and Canada, saw the effects of Hurricane Sandy up close and personal from the Association's home office in Princeton, NJ. Not only was the office forced to be closed for several days after the storm, but many of the employees who live along the Jersey Shore were directly affected.
"Hurricane Sandy hit New Jersey hard and while the entire staff was impacted -- many of us without power for days, some of us still without power -- all of us are here, safe and sound and trying to get back to normal," said NAFA's Executive Director Phillip E. Russo, CAE. "On behalf of the entire staff, I extend my sincere thanks to all of you who offered support and comfort during this difficult time.
"In response to Hurricane Sandy, which has devastated areas here in New Jersey, as well as in New York and Connecticut, NAFA will be making contributions to several relief funds established in the areas hardest hit. After Hurricane Katrina, NAFA donated $3,200 to relief funds in New Orleans, contributing $100 for each NAFA chapter. This time, we will be donating the same amount on behalf of each chapter but dividing the donations among funds in each state."
To date, the response from NAFA chapters and other fleet management friends has been overwhelming. The Florida Association of Governmental Fleet Administrators (FLAGFA) is contributing $1,000 and NAFA's Sunshine State and Puget Sound Chapters have already pledged donations. The members of FLAGFA and NAFA's Sunshine State Chapter (based in Florida) are well versed on the damages done by hurricanes and the need for community support.
"NAFA is grateful to our friends in Florida," added Russo. "In years past, NAFA has helped support struggling communities in Detroit and New Orleans where our annual conference was held. In 2013, our conference will take place in Atlantic City, NJ - an area that witnessed Hurricane Sandy's destruction. We hope that by our contributions and support for the area, we will be able to help out yet another city... one a little closer to home for us."
If you would like to help, please contact Phil Russo at prusso@nafa.org.
NAFA is the world's premier non-profit association for professionals who manage fleets of sedans, public safety vehicles, trucks, and buses of all types and sizes, and a wide range of military and off-road equipment for organizations across the globe. NAFA is the association for the diverse vehicle fleet management profession regardless of organizational type, geographic location or fleet composition. NAFA's Full and Associate Members are responsible for the specification, acquisition, maintenance and repair, fueling, risk management, and remarketing of more than 3.5 million vehicles including in excess of 1.1 million trucks of which 350 thousand are medium- and heavy-duty trucks.
