WASHINGTON, DC, November 14, 2012 (Press-News.org) Cleats go on feet, but what do you do as you as you outgrow them? When the shoe no longer fits, lend a hand to a foot in need! That's exactly what Cleats for Bare Feet, the creative project sponsored by greeNEWit, is doing. On Saturday October 27, 2012, Cleats for Bare Feet donated more than 300 pairs of boys and girls second-hand cleats (athletic shoes) and sporting equipment to children at the DC Scores Fall Frenzy.
The Fall Frenzy took place from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Anacostia Park (North Field), 1900 Anacostia Dr. SE, Washington, DC 20020. It was a daylong celebration of the fall season, consisting of a round-robin soccer tournament, arts and crafts booths, music, relay races and many other activities for DC Score students and their families.
DC Scores builds teams through after-school programs for more than 1,450 low-income DC youth at 42 schools by instilling self-expression, physical fitness and a sense of community.
"We are thrilled to partner with DC Scores to grow our presence in the region while affording hundreds of youth in need the opportunity to play soccer with shoes on their feet," greeNEWit Agent of Change Andres Camacho said. "The Cleats for Bare Feet program is really great because we're helping connect children across the globe through love of the game of soccer."
Cleats for Bare Feet has collected more than 5,000 pairs of soccer cleats for distribution among various organizations in Haiti, Kenya, Jamaica, South Africa and the US. greeNEWit is an organization founded to help society build sustainable communities and better economies through energy efficiency and conserving the use of natural resources. The company helps homeowners and businesses adopt best practices to cut costs and achieve energy savings.
