A survey conducted by Cheapflights Australia has indicated that Australia is the cream of the crop for staycations.

2012-11-16
BRIGHTON, ENGLAND, November 16, 2012 (Press-News.org) Australia has been revealed as the best place for a staycation, with the latest survey showing that most Australians prefer to stay in the country during their holidays. The survey, by Cheap Flights Australia (http://www.cheapflights.com.au), has shown that 58 per cent of Australians choose to stay on the continent for their holidays, with over half of them flying to reach their destination.

The results prove that Australia is great for staycations, with a diverse mix of beaches, deserts and even skiing to enjoy, all in one country. Most respondents said they would be willing to travel more than eight hours to reach their destination, making gadgets a must-have for a long journey.

The most common response of those polled (43 per cent) highlighted electronics such as eReaders or laptops as the one thing they cannot fly without, followed by something to read at 31 per cent, and water at 14 per cent.

Other popular destinations with Australians included Southeast Asia, including countries like Thailand, Singapore, or Vietnam. Surprisingly, only a few of those polled (7 per cent) identified America or Canada as their dream holiday destination.
