Joesten has been an active Boalt Hall Alumni Association board member for the past five years, serving consecutive one-year terms as president from 2007-2009. Joesten's complex litigation practice emphasizes intellectual property matters, including patent and trademark disputes, trade secret misappropriation cases, and technology-related litigation for both U.S. and international companies. She was recently appointed by the ABA's Section of Litigation as co-chair of the Section's 2012 Annual Meeting to be held at the ABA's Annual Meeting in Chicago. This ABA appointment follows her terms as co-chair of the ABA Section of Litigation's Woman Advocate Committee and previously its Mentoring Subcommittee. Joesten has been a strong advocate for the importance of mentoring in the legal profession and has served as the partner co-chair of Farella's Professional Development Committee.
Joesten received her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley Law School (1997) and her B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder (1982), where she serves as a member of the Engineering Advisory Council. Prior to her legal career, Joesten was a manufacturing engineer and an advertising brand manager for Procter & Gamble.
The Young Alumni Award was presented to Joesten at the 49th Annual Citation Award Dinner on Oct. 1, 2010 in San Francisco.
