'Tis The Season For Math Zoom's Winter Boot Camp!

Irvine-Based Math Zoom Academy Provides an Unexpected Holiday Treat for Mathematically Gifted 12- to 17-Year-Olds: Its Lively, Competition-Fueled Math Camp, Offered December 24-28, 2012

2012-11-30
COSTA MESA, CA, November 30, 2012 (Press-News.org) Some people go skiing. Others go out for Chinese food and a movie. Still others lounge around in their living rooms in a food coma amid piles of crumpled wrapping paper. But for certain mathematically gifted teenagers, there's no better way to spend Christmas week than at a math-centric Winter Boot Camp offered by Math Zoom Academy.

Running from December 24-28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at Math Zoom's Irvine headquarters, Winter Boot Camp provides a fun, challenging, and intensive preparation for the upcoming math contest season that includes the American Mathematics Competition, MathCounts, and several other contests.

Kids ages 12-17 will enjoy the high-energy, fast-paced schedule of math problem-solving, discussion, group activities, and, of course, outdoor recreation to refresh brain cells. The Winter Boot Camp has a special emphasis on preparation for the spring math contests, and offers many lively practice sessions with challenging written and oral problems and a good-natured spirit of competition.

Math Zoom Academy has offered its Winter Boot Camp since 2006 and has seen attendance grow every year—a perhaps unexpected phenomenon considering that the camp runs during Christmas week!

"We've been very happy to see the positive response—from parents and kids!—to our Winter Boot Camp," says Kelly Ren, Math Zoom Academy program director. "There are families from out of state who schedule their vacation here in Southern California so that the kids can enjoy the camp. While parents may want to relax on the sunny beach and siblings may be eager to head to Disneyland, the campers choose to stay in the camp longer to have more fun with math and the other kids! They enjoy working with well-known math coaches and motivated peers in a highly dynamic and interactive environment, and gain so much satisfaction by having a brainy feast for the holiday."

The deadline to register is December 8th, 2012. Tuition for the full five days of camp, including lunch, is $750. For more information and to register, call 949.679.8989 or visit http://www.mathzoom.org.
