Bayer CropScience Celebrates The Holidays With A Day Of Service At The Shepherd's Table Soup Kitchen

Employees Brighten Up The Season By Serving Raleigh Residents In Need With A Hot Meal And Special Gift

2012-12-16
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, December 16, 2012 (Press-News.org) Bayer CropScience employees brought holiday cheer to many area residents this week through their participation in a day of service at The Shepherd's Table Soup Kitchen in downtown Raleigh. On Thursday, Dec. 13, 32 employees served a hot meal and distributed 375 gift bags filled with nonperishable food items to soup kitchen patrons as part of the company's commitment to the fight against hunger.

The Shepherd's Table Soup Kitchen opened in June 1980 and served 27 people on its first day. Today, the organization provides meals to more than 300 people each weekday. The kitchen is dedicated to feeding men, women and children of every faith and ethnicity. More than 200 volunteers and 125,000 pounds of food are needed each year to feed the patrons at The Shepherd's Table Soup Kitchen.

"During the holiday season, many people are in need of the healthy food that we so often take for granted," said Adrian Percy, vice president of development North America for Bayer CropScience LP. "At Bayer CropScience, we want to brighten up the holidays for people who might otherwise wonder where their next meal is coming from."

Bayer CropScience's volunteer team for The Shepherd's Table Soup Kitchen, led by Percy, participates in four dedicated days of service to the organization each year. In order to further support the mission and works of the soup kitchen, Bayer CropScience also makes a $7,500 annual donation to the organization through the Bayer USA Foundation.
