North Raleigh Florist Takes Home Top Honors At North Carolina State Fair

Local Designers Recognized At Professional Floral Competition

2012-12-16
RALEIGH, NC, December 16, 2012 (Press-News.org) Janice Cutler, president and owner of North Raleigh Florist (http://www.northraleighflorist.com), located at 7457 Six Forks Road, has announced that several of the shop's designers were honored at the North Carolina State Fair Professional Floral Competition. The annual competition, composed of three showings, included five unique subcategories this year: a Southern bridesmaid's bouquet, a Civil War sympathy/memorial piece, an all-North Carolina products door decoration, a Thanksgiving centerpiece and a beach-themed floral arrangement. North Raleigh Florist designers Samantha Alawar, Amy Sipe, Christina Tessitore and Julie Vaughn participated in all phases of the competition.

Vaughn won third place in the first show with her tropical beach arrangement, which was designed with protea, yellow lilies, grass loops, birds of paradise and ti leaves to invoke feelings of an island getaway. Alawar also took home third place honors in the show with a Civil War sympathy piece created with moss, smooth stones, an American flag, a grapevine cross and daisies to mark the final resting place of a fallen soldier.

Sipe won first place in the second show with a Southern bridal bouquet that included a rainbow of bright flowers, including purple dahlia and white hydrangea, that when combined made a perfect bouquet for the modern Southern woman on her wedding day.

For the third show, Vaughn won first place for her all-North Carolina products door decoration in an arrangement combining dried tobacco, fresh gourds, cherry brandy roses, green hydrangea and hypericum berries. She also placed third with her Civil War sympathy piece, designed using a military cap and wispy natural flowers to invoke feelings of an overgrown resting place. Sipe placed fourth in the show for her colorful all-North Carolina door decoration that including a red cardinal and the North Carolina state motto, and for a Civil War sympathy piece that combined cream stock, blue hydrangea and white tulips. Alawar took home third place with a dramatic Southern bridal bouquet featuring a variety of white flowers bound with a chocolate-colored ribbon. Finally, Tessitore received fourth place for her beach-themed arrangement with two phalaenopsis orchids and trachelium, accented with shells and quartz to make a simple yet dramatic piece.
