ORANJEZICHT, SOUTH AFRICA, August 21, 2010 (Press-News.org) Peter Rayner, an expat from the UK was delighted to announce the opening of his long awaited Phoenix Guest House.25 years ago, on his visit to South Africa, he was swept off his feet when he first laid eyes on Table Mountain and the beautiful Cape Town. A second visit in 2000 was the defining moment, he decided that he was going to get out of London as soon as possible and make the move.He had dreamt that he would one day settle in the Cape and that dream has finally come to fruition.
In 2007 he was invited by friends in Cape Town to spend a weekend at a time share resort in Wilderness on the Garden Route, he recalls his ambivalence about the trip and what he felt was a long drive to spend a weekend. His friends insisted and an obsession was born. "I recall, quite vividly, as we drove through the Garden Route, coming into the Kaaimans Pass and down into Wilderness that my heart literally skipped a beat, I was completely blown away by the beautiful views and long beaches stretching out before me. I felt like I had finally come home to my dream"
It was during the few days at the resort that Peter was told about a partially completed house on the hill overlooking the Wilderness village and lagoon that had been abandoned. A British couple who had struggled for more than three years to build their dream home had finally given up and stopped the process. Due to the unscrupulous and tardy contractors taking advantage of absentee owners, whom had made an abominable "pigs ear" of the property, skimping and using inferior product, leaving the owners heartbroken and exasperated with what became a seemingly endless ordeal, they finally walked away and that's where Peter stepped in.
He purchased the property based solely on the fabulous views and feelings of serenity, with hindsight he explains, "If I had known what I was in for I would never have undertaken this project, it was at times a really bad nightmare, one of those things you wished you had never contemplated".Peter shrugs, "Now it's done, the stress and enormous strain over, and I feel that I have achieved something really special, an unusual place and space, my Phoenix is born!"
The minimal and hi tech ultra modern guest house is multi level and consists of three fabulously luxurious rooms, bath en suite, two rooms with private terraces, magnificent views through floor to ceiling windows. A thick clear glass barrier encapsulates a seemingly endless pool deck and terrace with sweeping ocean and mountain vistas. Guests would be hard pressed to find a more equisite setting or a more gracious host. Clear glass staircases lead from one level to another, "No shoes allowed, soft luxuriant slippers provided". Luxury double textured shaggy carpets, soft enough to lay your head on in all the rooms, bio fuel fireplaces, the attention to detail is painstakingly passionate and harks back to an era of master craftsman.
Peter Rayner is ready to accommodate your every whim and offers a fabulous experience, a soul comforting environment, in what is one of the unquestionably most beautiful places on earth. Phoenix Guest House is perfectly located to explore the Garden Route area, visit the seaside towns like Sedgefield, Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, A drive through to the Karoo is a few hours away. Enjoy a bounty of adventure, paragliding, deep sea fishing, helicopter rides, biking, kayaking, surfing...the list is endless.
