NY3 Design Group Designs Student Club Space at Long Island University

Award-winning design firm transforms large space into a modern, functional multi-use facility

2013-01-09
NEW YORK, NY, January 09, 2013 (Press-News.org) NY3 Design Group, an award-winning interior design firm located in Manhattan, recently completed a total redesign for Long Island University-Brooklyn Campus Student Clubs area.

Long Island University, one of the nation's largest, most comprehensive, private institutions of higher learning, put out a Request For Proposal for a design firm to completely redesign the Student Clubs area, a 6,000 square foot facility that houses 20 different organizations. This extensive project included re-structuring of the space to accommodate various organization's needs, upgrading the air conditioning system to be more efficient and upgrading the toilet facilities for ADA-compliance. Additional improvements for this diverse student body included helping Muslim students maintain an important ritual by implementing foot baths in the bathroom facilities.

The space began as an inefficient, cluttered area on campus that was never properly designed as space for use as a student club area. NY3 Design Group, known for its work in both planning and design, won out against other top New York design firms for their unique combination of commercial design expertise and customer service. NY3 Design Group had a lofty goal to accommodate the needs of all 20 student clubs, while coupling with responsible, sustainable and informed design to see the vision become a reality. After planning meetings to interact directly with the student organizations, a concept was designed and approved.

Principals Laura Reddy and David Freire used their extensive creative talents to implement unique colors and patterns in the flooring, walls and furniture. The Long Island University Student Clubs space is now an entirely new model of integrative-use space within a setting that feels far more like a community than a commercial space.

NY3 Design Group, established in 2002 by Laura Reddy and David Freire provides design products and services for the commercial industry. Their work is diverse as the locations and facilities in which it can be found. NY3 Design Group provides Design & Planning and Permitting & Project Management services for the business community.
