Beautisol Helps Rebuild a Church for Haitian Immigrants

Dominican Republic church will act as a school for immigrant children

2010-10-20
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, October 20, 2010 (Press-News.org) Beautisol, the leading sun care experts, today announced the company's involvement in rebuilding a church in the Dominican Republic. Beautisol along with "Kiters 4 Communities" are joining forces in renovating the run-down structure in Sabaneta, in the area of Cabarete.

The church's' original structure is currently located on a floodplain therefore the place of worship experiences heavy flooding during rainfall. The new construction will not only keep the more than 90 parishioners dry, but it will also act as a school for the children of Haitian immigrants who at times, are prevented from receiving a proper education due to discrimination and language barriers.

"Beautisol is a strong believer in volunteering and giving back to the community and when my Co-Founder Chris Raniere witnessed firsthand the deprivation the church's parishioners were experiencing during a trip to the Dominican Republic, we knew we had to help," said Sinead Norenius, Founder of Beautisol. "We hope other companies will follow our lead and become more involved with community projects."

The new church is scheduled to break ground beginning of 2011. The $20,000 project will use recycled plastic bottles filled with either plastic trash or sand instead of concrete blocks in hopes of bringing down the cost. The Haitian immigrants will build the church along with volunteer engineers and managers.

Kiters 4 Communities together with sponsors like Beautisol recognize the importance of a project like this and how vital it is for the Sabaneta community and the Haitian immigrants living there.

"After living in the Dominican Republic for seven years, working with many poor Dominicans and Haitians thru my kite surfing school, and visiting Haiti for the first time this year, I finally realized that the need is too great not to do anything," said Laurel Eastman, Co-Founder of Kiters 4 Communities. "The Haitian men who work for me have really touched my life and opened my eyes. After visiting their church, which is the most important part of their life, and seeing its condition and the plea for help from the pastor, it was obvious that it was time to really get on board."

Kiters 4 Communities will coordinate and oversee the development of the project. Donations are still needed, so individuals and organizations, who are interested in making a donation, can contact Laurel Eastman at info@laureleastman.com and mention the Haitian Building Project.
