VANCOUVER, BC, February 01, 2013 (Press-News.org) If something interests you then it is interesting or you have an interest in it - no problem here. However, if it doesn't interest you - how do you describe your state of mind?
The fact that there appear to be two antonyms for 'interested' - 'uninterested' and 'disinterested' - leads to confusion for many people and misuse of one or other of these words is common.
Actually, the antonym to interested is 'uninterested'.
I am very interested in golf but my husband is completely uninterested; he prefers to play tennis.
Disinterested is not the opposite of interested; if you are disinterested you are impartial. To get a fair ruling on something, assuming two parties disagree, you might want to bring in a third party who is 'disinterested' to decide the issue. A disinterested person has no interest - financial, emotional or other - in the issue or the outcome so their judgement is unbiased.
I trusted his recommendation; he wasn't trying to sell me anything, he's a disinterested party.
In this sentence the person referred to might - or might not - find the situation interesting; however, he has nothing to gain or lose so his advice is impartial and therefore trustworthy - he is 'disinterested'.

Space Station to Scan the Globe for Weather Data with ISS-RapidScat
2013-02-01
Regular measurements of wind speed and direction at the ocean surface alert forecasters to threatening tropical storm conditions, while informing scientists of interactions between the atmosphere and sea currents that influence environmental conditions across the globe.
The observations are most effectively gathered from Earth orbit.
The U.S. lost that capability suddenly in late 2009, when the SeaWinds scatterometer aboard NASA's then 10-year-old QuikScat satellite experienced an age-related antenna failure.
While NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric ...

2013-01-31
AUSTIN, Texas — For centuries, the fate of the original Otomí inhabitants of Xaltocan, the capital of a pre-Aztec Mexican city-state, has remained unknown. Researchers have long wondered whether they assimilated with the Aztecs or abandoned the town altogether.
According to new anthropological research from The University of Texas at Austin, Wichita State University and Washington State University, the answers may lie in DNA. Following this line of evidence, the researchers theorize that some original Otomies, possibly elite rulers, may have fled the town. Their exodus ...
