RALEIGH, NC, February 21, 2013 (Press-News.org) United Way of the Greater Triangle (http://www.unitedwaytriangle.org), a nonprofit organization that works to improve lives by mobilizing local partner agencies, nonprofits, government volunteers and experts in Durham, Johnston, Orange and Wake counties, has announced that Kevin Trapani, president and CEO of The Redwoods Group, has been named vice chair of the organization's board of directors. In his new position, Trapani will assist the board's director, J. R. Shearin of Deloitte, in leading United Way of the Greater Triangle's board of directors in developing and expanding the organization's strategic impact on the community while helping thousands in need.
In 2009, Trapani served as chair of United Way of the Greater Triangle's Tocqueville Society donor group, which is compromised of donors who give $10,000 or more annually to the organization. In 2012, he joined United Way of the Greater Triangle's board of directors and participated as one of the CEOs in the organization's CEO Sleepout as well as a panelist for United Way's Young Leaders Society executive series. In addition, Trapani promotes volunteerism with United Way of the Greater Triangle projects to all of his employees.
Trapani began The Redwoods Group in 1997 and today, Redwoods insures and protects YMCAs, nonprofit resident camps, Jewish Community Centers, Jewish Family Services and Jewish Federations. In addition to his involvement with United Way of the Greater Triangle, he serves on the boards of the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation, the University of North Carolina's Center for International Understanding and the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions at Duke University. Additionally, he chairs the Triangle-wide CEO Build for Habitat for Humanity.

• Trapani graduated from Duke University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in political science and is a regular speaker on sustainability and corporate social responsibility at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business.
• He is a member of the Advisory Committee for Duke's CASE (Center for Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship) that promotes the entrepreneurial pursuit of social impact through business.
• In addition to support through advocacy and funding, he commits his time and talents to a number of organizations involved in providing support for at-risk or under-served populations, and the creation and growth of social enterprises.
