SAN DIEGO, CA March 20, 2013 (Press-News.org) An estimated 1,500 San Diego college students, military personnel and the general public will exercise on the deck of the USS Midway for the Ex 4 Vets III event on Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 8:00-10:00 a.m. The event is hosted by Embrace, a nationally recognized non-profit organization focused on bringing diverse groups of people together for social wellness projects, and will consist of an hour-long fitness/kickboxing workout led by fitness guru Cindy Whitmarsh.
"Our primary goal is to raise awareness of the needs of homeless and disabled veterans in San Diego and how college students meet these needs by volunteering through Embrace," said Embrace Founder, Sean Sheppard. "The secondary goal is to raise at least $200,000 to expand our ability to serve homeless veterans year round, as well as disabled veterans through Embrace's Healing Our Heroes' Homes program."
Part of what makes Ex 4 Vets unique is that Embrace gives back 50% of net revenues to student organizations, ministries, active military and veteran groups that participate. The October, 2012 Ex 4 Vets II event saw Embrace give back over $10,000.
Following the Ex 4 Vets workout, Embrace will host a post-exercise party on the USS Midway from 9:00-10:00 a.m. The event will feature food, fun, music and an award ceremony to recognize the top individual and group fundraisers. Prizes will include a 40-inch TV for the top individual fundraiser and two $500 Best Buy gift cards and two loving cup trophies for the top sorority and fraternity fundraisers.
San Diego City Councilmember Marti Emerald will also attend the event to show her support for Embrace and Ex 4 Vets.
Registration fee for students, active military and veterans is $25. For civilians, the registration fee is $35, and the day of event registration fee is $45 for all participants. Thanks to The Department of the Navy (Commander Navy Region Southwest), 300+ parking spots will be donated so participants can enjoy complimentary parking directly across the street from the USS Midway.
In addition to being a fitness guru, Whitmarsh hosts a weekly fitness segment on San Diego's own KUSI. Whitmarsh has her own consulting business, Ultrafit Nutrition Systems, and has produced and starred in her own exercise video, "The Ultrafit Fat Burning Video." She has appeared in countless DVD's and infomercials, as well as network television specials.
About Embrace
Founded in 2000, Embrace uses community service to bring diverse groups of people together to bring about social wellness in our society. The organization focuses on the utilization of college students and recent graduates to develop their leadership qualities and remedy community problems such as health disparities and homelessness on a volunteer basis. Founder Sean Sheppard's ultimate goal is to bring about legislation that makes community service mandatory for all college students that attend state funded institutions of higher education.
