Career Step and MRA to Present on Assessing Coder Readiness at MaHIMA ICD-10 Summit

Career Step, in partnership with Medical Record Associates (MRA), will be presenting on ICD-10 training and coder readiness assessments at the MaHIMA ICD-10 Summit on Friday, April 5.

2013-04-05
PROVO, UT, April 05, 2013 (Press-News.org) Career Step, an online education company, in partnership with Medical Record Associates (MRA) will be presenting on how healthcare organizations can conduct ICD-10 training and assess coder readiness for ICD-10-CM/PCS coding in the 8:30 a.m. session of the MaHIMA ICD-10 Summit on Friday, April 5.

"ICD-10 code training is top of mind for all healthcare providers; but, with only 18 months left before the mandated implementation date, it is critically important that organizations determine their coders' knowledge of biomedical sciences as it will greatly impact their ability to accurately use the ICD-10 codes," said Career Step Vice President of Healthcare and Corporate Training Mike Hodgson. "We're teaming up with MRA at the MaHIMA summit to share specifics on what should be evaluated to determine coder readiness and how facilities can go about doing that efficiently."

The hour-long session will be presented by Hodgson and Lynn Salois, RHIT, CCS, CDIP, who is the director of coding at MRA. The MaHIMA ICD-10 Summit will last the entire day and is being held on Friday, April 5 at The Lantana at 43 Scanlon Drive in Randolph, Massachusetts.

Career Step is uniquely qualified to present on this subject as the company has co-developed baseline and advanced coder assessment tools, biomedical sciences education, and ICD-10-CM/PCS code set training, which is being used by several of the largest healthcare providers and payers in the country, with YES HIM Consulting, Inc., a firm specializing in ICD-10 preparation. Career Step and YES HIM Consulting, Inc. also recently published research on the importance of assessments and biomedical sciences education in an industry white paper released earlier this year. Career Step has chosen to partner with MRA as the company offers local training and staffing insights, a unique perspective into the specific needs of the MaHIMA community, and experience with many of Career Step's assessment and training tools.
