YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND, April 06, 2013 (Press-News.org) Join the Simply Ghost Nights team on a ghost hunting event as we head to Woodchester Mansion, in the hart of the beautiful county of Gloucestershire. Set in approximately 3,000 acres of land the mansion is the perfect backdrop to its surroundings. But that is where the serenity ends, there have being around twelve apparitions documented on this site since around the 18th century. Countryside.
Woodchester Mansion is world famous for being most haunted by a variety of spectral beings through ages. The first recorded settlement in Woodchester goes as far back as the Roman times, coincidentally one of the frequent supernatural hauntings to be seen is that of a Roman centurion who patrols the south side of the estate.
The Mansion was abandoned by its builders in the middle of construction, reputedly due to the paranormal activity witnessed by them, in some cases workmen refused to work there and left immediately after being scared to death by what they saw. This is one of the contributing reasons as to why the building appears complete from the outside, but with floors, plaster and whole rooms missing inside.
It has remained in this state since the mid-1870s, after William Leigh died the once owner of Woodchester Mansion who's dream it was to have the house built in a Gothic style, however after his death his family had neither the passion or the funds to have the house completed, hence all work stopped.
What activity did the builders witness to put the fear of God into them, we were informed that dark black shadows have be seen to manifest without warning and rise from the ground, to the terror of those who had the misfortune to be stood in it's path.
Objects going missing and reappearing in a new location in the building for no reason what so ever, incarnate voices are said to be heard on many occasions and the sound of young ghostly children playing in the building too are also heard.
A headless horseman is also reported to have been seen as well as a floating coffin that eerily floats above one of the lakes; the body in the coffin is as legend would have it that of a monk or priest who committed suicide. Another spectral manifestation is that of big black dog which is said to be an omen of death.
Also a spirit of a gentleman has been witnessed in his night shirt who was violently savaged alive by his own dogs. A phantom coach and horses with it's coachmen sat on top of the coach are said to drive through the entrance gates towards the park, but more sinisterly there is the infamous tale of the 'ragged dwarf', first witnessed by the local Reverend in 1904, who vowed never to set foot in the grounds of Woodchester mansion ever again.
Among the ghostly inhabitants of the eerie mansion include the lost soul of the white lady who is said to float off the ground on the second floor, apparitions of Second World War American soldiers are noted since the mansions grounds were used in the run up to the d-day landings. These ghostly apparitions are also accompanied with 1940s music. A tall well dressed Victorian gentleman is seen floating in and around the chapel, in the cellars dark shadows are seen to dart in all directions and loud and aggressive banging and tapping's are regular occurrences in these mysterious cellars.
Participate as we investigate Woodchester Mansion, in search of spirits from a time long gone.
