Registration for the 2013 National Forum on Character Education begins April 3. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the conference, which provides information and strategies from global thought leaders for implementing character education programs in schools. Themes included in this year's Forum include school safety, civic engagement, character education and the Common Core, leadership, and community involvement. The conference takes place at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington D.C., October 24-27, 2013.
"Prevention of school violence is an issue that all educators need to explore," said Mark Hyatt, CEP President & CEO. "To this end, we've created our inaugural School Safety Summit, an intensive workshop on reducing violence in America's schools. It's a complex topic but one that we feel that character education can play a huge part in addressing." The School Safety Summit is a full-day, pre-Forum event bringing together educators and experts from a variety of fields.
In addition to the School Safety Summit, the second annual International Summit will also take place prior to the Forum. This informative day is spent sharing and discussing international initiatives for promoting character education in schools worldwide. The 2012 International Summit featured representatives from more than 18 countries.
Topics explored in the National Forum for Character Education include:
• Character education and Science, Technology Engineering and Math (STEM)
• Intrinsic motivation and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
• Literacy and Character
• Hot Spots for Bullying
• Family Involvement
Teachers, counselors, psychologists, social workers, school and district administrators, researchers, business and community leaders, youth-serving organizations and parents are all encouraged to register and attend. Early bird registration fees begin at $390 for members and $465 for non-members, with discounts available for students and volunteers. Prices are valid through September 30, 2013.
