TOPEKA, KS, August 24, 2010 (Press-News.org) Studentreasures' free student publishing programs enable students to write, illustrate, and publish full-color, hardbound books. Flexible enough to be integrated into any curriculum, the project has been credited by educators as the best fun, motivational way to get students excited about writing.
Jenny Henry, a 5th grade teacher and coordinator of the project at Copper Mesa, says, "I enjoy coordinating this project for our school each year. We focus on the writing process and each teacher finds a unique way to showcase their students. It is truly a celebration to watch students be excited about writing, to find an audience and purpose for their writing, and to become a published author."
Studentreasures, the original student-created book publisher, began offering the program in 1994. Since then, schools in every U.S. state and Canada have benefited from the free writing enrichment program.
Henry adds, "When speaking with other teachers about their experience they always share how delighted their students are to receive their books. The parents love the books too. I am so thankful that Studentreasures offers such a wonderful experience for my students."
Publishing its four millionth free book is a major milestone for the company.
"It is especially gratifying to know that four million young authors who may otherwise not have had the opportunity to become published authors were able to because of our free Studentreasures project," said Nationwide Learning CEO, Joseph Gigous.
