FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, April 11, 2013 (Press-News.org) According to doctors from the Retina Group of Florida, some of the patients they see should not be driving themselves to their appointments based on the vision requirements set by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Additionally, many of the procedures performed at any of the six locations of the Retina Group's offices require dilation, which blurs the vision, and can potentially make it harder for people to drive.
Presenting the option of a driving service offers patients of the Retina Group a safe alternative to driving themselves, and also allows elderly patients to maintain their personal freedom.
Dr. Scott Anagnoste, M.D. states, "Our goal at Retina Group of Florida is to improve our patients' quality of life by improving and preserving their vision enabling them to continue to remain self-sufficient. For scheduled procedures, many of our patients have to rely on friends or family to get them to their appointments. One of the most terrifying aspects of any eye disorder is the fear of becoming dependent on others. Being able to safely come to their appointments without imposing on friends or family really helps preserve our patients' sense of independence."
RedCap's service is unique because their driver takes the clients' car to and from their appointment, offering a comfortable and familiar experience over traditional options like taxis or public transportation. Retina Group patients' membership fee for Red Cap will be waived, and a flat fee for 2 or 3 hours appointments will apply.
"Retina Group is one of those forward thinking organizations that recognize the importance of their patients safety not just in office but how they are being transported to and from an appointment," said Dave Kielkucki, RedCap Chief Operating Officer. "By offering personal drivers at discounted rates, Retina Group is providing greater flexibility to its patients who either would have to rely on friends and family, a taxi or other forms of public transportation to schedule a procedure."
