Rick Huntress, Author Of 'Better To Be Broken', Provides Motivation And Inspiration To Those With Disabilities

An avid supporter of the 'Wounded Warrior Project, Huntress has served as the Executive Director for the South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Association. The book is an inspiring book written for any person who suffers from any form of disability

2013-04-18
SUPPLY, NC, April 18, 2013 (Press-News.org) Rick Huntress had everything—and he had nothing. He was a self-centered man living a selfish life, until one fateful day when his whole world changed. A horrific accident left Rick in a wheelchair. But this tragic moment became a blessing, as God touched Rick's heart, opening a door of ministry for those with broken spirits in need of healing.

'Better To Be Broken' is an inspirational book that details the story of one man's awakening into the light of God's love and his hope-filled message that provides inspiration and motivation to those who suffer from any type of disability. 'Better To Be Broken' is also a disability book that approaches the subject from an entirely different perspective. In Rick's opinion, his disability was in fact a form of blessing.

"In a world that is spinning out of control," Huntress stated, "everyone is looking for hope and encouragement. My personal, and transparent story of my own failures, injury and recovery, tells readers that life does not end with any type of disability or failure."

In addition to providing a platform that allows him to write books that inspire, Rick's disability has opened up a new world. Rick has been given new opportunities and has been privileged to work with peer support groups, visit people with new injuries, speak in nursing homes, and share his personal testimony in churches, schools, universities and conferences for disabled people. Huntress has served as the Executive Director for the South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Association and has served on the Governor's Commission for the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs. He is an avid and vocal supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project.

"I feel very strongly," Huntress continued, "about the 'Wounded Warrior Project.' I have participated in several of their deer hunts here in South Carolina and believe that the program is fantastic to get the people back out in life and enjoying themselves. The DNR is very involved with this program and funds free hunts for wounded warriors and disabled individuals such as myself. I am also on the Roger C. Peace Advisory Board here in Greenville that is a rehabilitation hospital that does a lot of therapy for wounded warriors. We have just recently opened the Peace House here in Greenville that is similar to the Fisher House for families to stay. When I was on the South Carolina Governor's Commission for the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs, I actively tried to get people with disabilities involved in the Wounded Warrior Project."

In a recent editorial review, Major General William M. Rajczak, USAF, Ret. stated, "Better to Be Broken is a timely and timeless story of loss and recovery. In an emotion filled story, Rick Huntress has captured his fight to rebound from a loss few of us can even imagine. Before his accident Rick was ... under my command. Through his recovery my wife and I were given the privilege of getting to know both Rick and Wendy. This friendship has endured and made our lives better. I applaud Rick's continuing efforts to help others who face recoveries similar to his. Rick's indomitable spirit, and his story of love, faith, and recovery is an inspiration to all."

Rick Huntress is available for media interviews and can be reached using the information below or by email at rick@rickhuntress.org. 'Better To Be Broken' is available at Amazon, Barnes And Noble, CBD and other book distributors. More information is available at Rick's website.

Rick Huntress grew up in the small town of Shapleigh, Maine and graduated from Massabesic High School in 1979. He started college at the University of Maine and enlisted in the Air Force in 1981 and was a technical instructor at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois.

Huntress served as the Executive Director for the South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Association and on the Governor's Commission for the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs. He is on the Board of Directors for a Christian school for special needs children and an advisory board for Roger C. Peace Rehabilitation Center
