EnviroFry Environmental Hygienists Recommend Quarterly Inspection & Cleaning Inside Home, Workplace, and Commercial Building HVAC Equipment & Ducts
2014-02-28
DETROIT, MI, February 28, 2014 (Press-News.org) "Residential and commercial heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and air ducts, plus window air conditioners, should be thoroughly cleaned and mold-disinfected on at least a quarterly or semi-annual basis for the environmental health well-being of residents and employees," recommends Phillip Fry, Certified Environmental Hygienist, Professional Industrial Hygienist, Certified Mold Inspector, Certified Mold Remediator, and co-manager of the nationwide EnviroFry mold inspection and removal service, based in Montrose, Michigan, and Mesa, Arizona.

In addition, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and indoor air specialists agree that HVAC cleaning is especially necessary where there is: (1) Permanent or persistent water damage in ducts; (2) Slime or microbial growth observed or air flow tested in ducts, such as bacterial and/or mold colony growth; (3) Debris and organic dust build‐up in ducts that restricts airflow and facilitates bacterial and mold growth; (4) Dust and mold spores discharging from supply diffusers; and (5) Offensive odors such as mold smells coming out of the HVAC air supply ducts.

The National Institutes of Health and mold experts like Mr. Fry suggest that before hiring an air duct cleaning company for the resolution of such serious duct problems, the property owner, manager, or tenant should consider these questions:

Are there known or observed contaminants in the ductwork? Have you confirmed the type and quantity of contaminants such as elevated levels of airborne mold spores through the use of air duct surface sampling and air flow testing? Are the contaminants or their by-products, such as airborne mold spores and poisonous mold mycotoxins, capable of entering occupied spaces? Have you identified and controlled the source of the contaminant? Will the duct cleaning effectively remove, inactivate, or neutralize the contaminant?

During the course of a total and complete mold and environmental inspection of a house, rental apartment, workplace, or commercial building, EnviroFry environmental hygienists take these two HVAC inspection and testing steps:

(1) remove air duct supply registers to carefully examine inside of the HVAC ducts for mold growth with both careful visual inspection with a strong flashlight, as well as deep into the ducts with a fiber optics inspection cable, video camera, and color TV observation monitor; and

(2) test the outward air flow from the operating HVAC system with an air pump and mold testing cassette to take a five minute sample of the outward air flow to submit to an accredited mold lab for mold species identification and quantification.

"If the air duct surface sampling and/or HVAC air flow lab results document a significantly greater number of types of toxic mold species and/or greater number of airborne toxic mold spores than an outdoor control air test, such disparity in results suggests a serious toxic mold infestation of the HVAC equipment and air ducts," notes Mr. Fry, who is author of five mold advice ebooks available at www.moldmart.net and webmaster of the mold information websites www.moldinspector.com, www.airconditionermold.com, and www.workplacemold.com.

"For the most effective and complete environmental cleanliness results in the regular, quarterly cleaning of residential and commercial building HVAC ducts, and for the special elimination of duct mold and bacterial infestations, EnviroFry highly recommends the use of the Rotobrush aiR+XP model duct cleaning system, manufactured by Rotobrush International, LLC, Grapevine, Texas, and available at its website www.rotobrush.com, or by calling toll-free 1-800-535-3878," recommends Mr. Fry.

"EnviroFry uses only, and highly recommends, the Rotobrush aiR+XP model duct cleaning equipment because: (1) Rotobrush manufactures the world's best quality duct cleaning equipment; and (2) the aiR+XP model, in particular, includes such powerful and helpful features as--

-- 450 revolutions-per-minute, rotating cable located inside the vacuum hose to drive the cleaning brush in removing mold growth, bacterial growth, and other duct contaminants;

-- two powerful vacuum motors with a total of eight horsepower to vacuum the removed mold and bacterial colony growth and duct debris loosened by the brush action immediately into the vacuum hose and then into a HEPA-protected bag for the collection and subsequent disposal of the removed items;

-- HEPA filter to collect any remaining mold spores and other air contaminants in the outward air flow from the Rotobrush vacuum cleaning system;

-- Extra-long hoses to reach deep into HVAC ducts; and

-- Oversized brushes and duct hoses for larger, commercial building duct work plus small to regular-sized brushes and duct hoses for cleaning out residential dryer vent ducts, kitchen and bathroom exhaust ducts, and all other sizes and types of residential ducts.
