Oxycodone Addiction Expert Comes to Challenges

Oxycodone Expert Dr. Sanford M. Silverman Speaking at Challenges Educational Workshop

2011-01-14
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, January 14, 2011 (Press-News.org) Prescription drug abuse is one of the biggest health crises in the state of Florida today. Oxycodone alone was responsible for more deaths in Florida in 2009 than cocaine, heroin and morphine combined and is the number ONE killer of middle-aged Floridians. The death toll in the state in 2009 was just about 3,000 - and a wake up call for state officials as well as those involved in the health care field.

Challenges Addiction and Relapse Prevention Treatment Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL is committed to helping educate professionals about the dangers of prescription drug addiction, and about Oxycodone in particular. In January, as part of their Advanced Clinical Skills Training Workshop series, Challenges is featuring Dr. Sanford M. Silverman, one of the leading experts in Oxycodone addiction. Dr. Silverman is an expert in the field of chronic pain and opioid addiction. He's a nationally recognized leader when it comes to dealing with intractable chronic pain and is known for his ability to effect change. His focus is helping patients break the cycle of pain and addiction and helping them with the process of restoring their quality of life.

Dr. Silverman was featured in Current TV's award winning series Vanguard, which created a disturbing but very important documentary, The Oxycontin Express. As part of the series, the producers of The Oxycontin Express traveled to South Florida, which is nationally regarded as 'ground zero' of the epidemic.

A preview clip of the documentary is featured on Challenges blog, along with information about where to watch the full version of the documentary The OxyContin Express. Link to blog is listed below.
