SAN DIEGO, CA, January 27, 2011 (Press-News.org) In an interview with Supply Chain Digital, Reg Mills, Managing Director of Mills Transport divulges how he's kept his company running since 1924.
Currently Mills Transport has 110 employees and follows a company restructure and sale of Brick & Paver division, including Burkes Haulage, the fleet is now 89 vehicles and 90 trailers.
The fleet is company-owned and presented in Mills or customer livery. A small group of sub-contractors are used to supplement capacity for a major contract and these have been selected where possible as they share the Company's values with respect to safety and service.
Operating Kenworth prime movers, the fleet includes semi and B-Double tautliners, containers skels, flat-tops, demountable container trailers, tankers and rigids. The fleet is maintained by the Company workshops, overseen by Joint Managing Director Kelvin Mills, who are also responsible for fleet selection and design.
"Our workforce is stable by industry standards probably because we're originally based and starting to become very much community focused," says Mills in the article. "We run our own workshops and workshop duties include driver selection, proper training, safety programs, focus on driving techniques to improve the driver's driving techniques and it also monitors the driver's vehicle performance on a daily basis."
