MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, February 22, 2011 (Press-News.org) One of the biggest meetings on the regional horse racing calendar takes place in Victoria next month.
The Werribee Cup is always popular with Australia's racing fraternity and this year's event on March 18th 2011 will be no different.
It will be run over 2,600 m and is sure to attract a talented field of jockeys and horses, thanks to its position as one of the five richest races on the provincial circuit.
As well as the sporting action, the day includes performances from roving musicians and competitions to find the best-dressed attendees.
Visitors will also get to revel in the history of the track. It dates back to 1860, making it one of the oldest courses in the state.
It was out of action for much of the period between 2008 and 2010 while major upgrades were carried out to the surface, which means fans may cherish this year's Cup even more than usual.
A range of hospitality packages are available, but those who just wish to enjoy the action can purchase general admission tickets for AU$25.
The course will open at 11:00 local time on the day.
Racing fans on the lookout for last minute accommodation near Werribee can find a wide array of Melbourne hotels at LateRooms.com.
