ROCKVILLE, MD, March 30, 2011 (Press-News.org) Clark Kendall, President of Kendall Capital, http://www.kendallcapital.com, recently swapped his office paperwork for a cause that highlights the benefits of a different type of paper -- disposable diapers.
The financial investment services firm sponsored the 5K Diaper Run to raise funds for "Two Worlds As One," an organization helping to provide diapers to orphans in Uganda. The 5K Diaper Run attracted runners and walkers from throughout the metro area and raised more than $6,400 for the group. Several runners, including Kendall, donned diapers to demonstrate their support.
"The need for disposable diapers in Uganda's orphan homes is critical," Kendall says. "Babies and toddlers are changed only two or three times each day, compared to five to nine times daily in the United States. This fundraising effort will improve the health and lives of these young children."
Kendall was recruited to the "Two Worlds As One" cause and the Diaper Run by his daughter Whitney, a nursing student at York College in Pennsylvania. Last summer, Whitney and four other young women traveled on a mission trip to the Sanyu Babies Home in Uganda, which houses 50 children. The diaper rash and spread of bacteria from leaking diapers was appalling, says Whitney. To change each child three times daily, the Sanyu Home annually uses nearly 55,000 diapers; twice that number are needed to ensure a healthier, cleaner environment.
"The 5K Diaper Run is just the begining of the work of "Two Worlds As One," says Kendall. "The need is great, the cause is worthwhile and Kendall Capital's support will continue."
