SAN DIEGO, CA, September 13, 2010 (Press-News.org) San Diego solar energy firm Solaire Energy Systems met last Friday, September 3rd, with Congressman Bob Filner (D - CA) to garner support for the PACE alternative energy financing program halted earlier this year by the federal government. Seeing the enormous energy and job creation potential in increasing the use of home solar energy systems in California, Congressman Filner and Solaire Owner Jarrod Fisk hope to push PACE financing forward and make solar more affordable for Americans.
PACE, or Property Assessed Clean Energy, helps homeowners finance a solar energy system with a city loan repaid through property taxes over the following twenty years. Implementation of this program would see an enormous increase in the use of home solar energy systems in the future - creating thousands of jobs and promoting the use of clean, green energy. In San Diego, this would also help decrease the strain on the SDGE power grid - reducing the frequency of black-outs and brown-outs.
"Between eight and nine people out of ten that I talked to are interested or want solar," said Fisk in an interview with ABC10 news, "but only two to three actually have the financial wherewithal to pay for it." A financing program like PACE would make solar a viable option for thousands of interested homeowners - as well as allow Solaire to move forward with temporarily halted plans to hire more workers and increase production and installation threefold. Seeing the PACE financing program as an added layer of risk to mortgages, mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have threatened to refuse loans for PACE-financed homes - causing the federal government to put the project on hold.
Congressman Filner hopes to put the program back into motion when congress goes back into session next month. Executives at Solaire hope that this new exposure helps bring attention to California PACE financing, and increases its support in the community - significantly increasing its chances of ratification by Congress, making alternative energy more affordable, and supporting the growth of sustainable energy providers like Solaire Energy Systems.
