LateRooms.com - Grinderman Set for Munich Concert

Nick Cave's Grinderman outfit will arrive in Munich as part of their European tour on October 11th.

2010-09-15
MUNICH, GERMANY, September 15, 2010 (Press-News.org) Fans of Grinderman will be looking forward to the rock group's European tour next month.

The band are set to perform in front of people staying in Munich hotels on Monday October 11th, when they take to the stage at the Bavarian capital's Muffathalle venue.

Led by Nick Cave, Grinderman originally formed in 2006 as a side project to the Australian songwriter's more established group, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

However, the artist is keen for the band to be recognised in its own right and the release of second album Grinderman 2 this month may help to achieve that aim.

Each of the group's members - Cave is joined by Warren Ellis, Martyn P Casey and Jim Sclavunos - is also involved with the Bad Seeds, but the music of Grinderman has been more frequently compared with Cave's former band The Birthday Party.

Reviewing Grinderman 2 for the Guardian, music critic Dave Simpson said the majority of the tracks "rampage from garage swamp blues to psychedelic Stooges rock".

He praised the record for including "terrific songs" such as Palaces of Montezuma and the epic Bellringer Blue, which closes the nine-track set.

Similarly, the Independent's Andy Gill described the album as "tremendous stuff" and noted "moments of almost tender introspection" amid the chaos.

Tickets for Grinderman's Munich gig, which is the first of five German dates for the four-piece in October, can be purchased online for EUR35 (GBP28.80). Doors will open at 19:30 local time.

The performance is likely to include tunes such as recent single Heathen Child, as well as songs from their debut album, which came out in 2007.

Emerging London-based singer Anna Calvi, who is already being tipped as one to watch for 2011, will provide the support act in Munich.

For more information on this event, visit the Muffathalle website.
