RALEIGH, NC, June 15, 2011 (Press-News.org) Elliot Gealy Golf is proud to announce that North Carolina native, Elliot Gealy, has qualified and will be competing in the 111th U.S. Open Championship. The tournament will take place on June 13-19 at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.
Gealy completed his sectional qualifier with a 135 two-round total at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland to earn a spot in this prestigious event. With more than 8,000 annual applicants vying for a spot in the 156-golfer field, qualifying for the U.S. Open Tournament is a remarkable achievement.
Gealy, a 1999 graduate from Clemson University, was the 2004 NGA Hooter's Tour Champion and leading money winner. After a three-year break from competitive golf where Gealy studied and taught the game, both in the United States and Korea, he successfully accomplished his goal of earning his 2011 PGA Tour Card via PGA Tour Qualifying School in December of 2010. Most recently, Gealy tied for 18th at the Stadion Classic at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., and posted 3 top 25 finishes on the Nationwide Tour this season. Gealy is currently 52nd out of 192 on the earnings list, with the top 25 automatically earning their 2012 PGA Tour exempt status. This will be Elliot's first time competing in the U.S. Open Tournament.
Gealy stated, "I am blessed to have the support and encouragement from my family, friends, fans, and sponsors. Without all of them, it would be nearly impossible for me to compete and work hard towards my professional goals and objectives. It's exciting to be a part of a tournament that some only dream of competing in."
Gealy will continue his pursuit of his 2012 PGA Tour Card throughout the summer with tournament stops in Maineville, Ohio, Sandy, Utah, Omaha, Neb, Kansas City, Mo and 8 additional cities throughout the United States.
Elliot Gealy sponsors include: TriMark Solutions, Titleist, Adams Golf, Cleveland Golf, Window World, and Anthony Wilder Design Build Inc.
