BILBAO, SPAIN, September 17, 2010 (Press-News.org) Fans of Henri Matisse may rush to book a hotel Bilbao when they hear that an exhibition of the artist's work on display in the Basque city has a certain intimacy about it.
Running until October 30th 2010 at BBK Foundation, the collection includes more than 40 prints by the Frenchman, with every type of technique used by the artist on show - this includes etchings, linocuts, woodcuts, colour prints, lithographs and monographs.
What may interest art enthusiasts most about the display is the intimacy of it, which has been highlighted by the curator of the exhibition Martine Soria.
She explained there are two self-portraits in the collection and a picture of Matisse's grandchildren, which was made in 1951-52 and is entitled 'Trois tetes. A l'amitie'
"I've always thought of the picture not as an exercise of special skill, but above all as a means to express inner feelings and moods," the organisers quoted the artist as saying in 1939.
They suggested the highlight of the collection may be a piece called Spring, which was made in 1938 and features clean, soft lines within the engraving.
Visitors can enter the venue from 10:00 to 14:00 local time and 16:30 to 21:00 from Monday to Saturday.
BBK Foundation is also putting on a series of jazz concerts in September this year.
For more information on this event visit the BBK Foundation website or contact the venue on +34 94 424 36 77.
