Velas Vallarta Resort Boasts Exemplary Safety Record Despite American Concerns Over Mexican Vacationing

Velas Vallarta, a coastal vacation destination in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, undeservedly gets a bad rap as an unsafe travel spot due to the distant violence of drug cartels.

2011-10-06
PUERTO VALLARTA, MEXICO, October 05, 2011 (Press-News.org) Velas Vallarta, a prospering Mexican travel resort on the western coast of Mexico, continues to offer vacationers a safe haven from drug violence in a protected, quiet area of the Central American nation.

Many Americans show undue concern regarding the southern neighbor of the United States, even amid outcries that these uneducated tourists are throwing out the proverbial baby with the bathwater when they cross Mexico off of their potential destination list.

In April, the U.S. State Department issued a public warning to U.S. citizens traveling to Mexico for any reason. In it, nine Mexican states were mentioned as partially dangerous - that is, some parts have been the victims of some violence at some time in the recent past. One of these states was Jalisco, the area in which Puerto Vallarta can be found. It is misleading and overly presumptuous to label regions this large as entirely dangerous; the truth of the matter is that a few isolated incidents happened hundreds of miles from Puerto Vallarta. Just because Puerto Vallarta finds itself under the geographical umbrella of Jalisco does not mean anyone thinking of visiting the positively-reviewed resort of Velas Vallarta or any other spot in the city has any reason to worry. "Avoiding Puerto Vallarta and Velas Vallarta because of the crime is like staying away from Seattle because of concerns about Los Angeles," says Ramon Bernal, Project Director at Velas Vallarta Resort, one of the safest places to stay in the region. "You can't let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch, especially if that bad apple is over 1,000 kilometers away from the good ones."

Puerto Vallarta itself is a town of unusually low crime, with less than half of the violent crime rate of New Orleans. Mexico as a whole gets its negative reputation from cartels waging war against police forces and each other in the hostile border towns at the northernmost points of the nation. Cities like Ciudad Juárez and Tijuana are locations garnering all the negative press for the coastal country.

Velas Vallarta, having shown itself to be one of the safest places to stay in Puerto Vallarta, is situated between the beach and downtown Puerto Vallarta. Velas Vallarta is renowned to travelers from the United States and around the world for its picturesque, traditional architecture, warm family environment and luxurious, all-inclusive extended-stay packages.
