NJ Association of Verismo Opera to Present New Program in Leonia, New Jersey

The NJ Association of Verismo Opera will present a new program, Moments in Opera, at the Leonia Public Library in Leonia, New Jersey on February 25, 2012 from 3:00-4:00 p.m.

FORT LEE, NJ, February 08, 2012 (Press-News.org) The NJ Association of Verismo Opera (Verismo Opera) returns to the Leonia Public Library, 227 Fort Lee Road, in Leonia, New Jersey, with its new program, Moments in Opera, Saturday, February 25, 3:00-4:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Verismo Opera's international cast of stars will sing vignettes from past productions, including the well-received performance of Tosca at the Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) in Englewood, New Jersey, excerpts from the upcoming performances of Il Trovatore on April 20 at 7:30 p.m. and April 22 at 3:00 p.m. at bergenPAC, and some surprises, too. A special performance will be given by Metropolitan Opera star and Verismo Opera's Artistic Director, Lucine Amara.

Among the international cast of artists scheduled to sing in Leonia are Canadian soprano Sharon Azrieli Perez, will appear as Leonora in Il Trovatore and last performed with the company in Aida; Mexican tenor Roberto Esquivelzeta, who will debut with the company as Manrico in Il Trovatore; and newcomer Argentine baritone Gustavo Ahualli, who will perform the role of Count di Luna in the new production. Other singers scheduled to appear in Leonia are Canadian soprano and Verismo Opera's production director of Il Trovatore, Evelyn La Quaif, and Allegra Durante, who will sing in the Verismo Opera Chorus in the new production.

The NJ Association of Verismo Opera (Verismo Opera) has been a part of the New Jersey music scene since 1989. The opera company, a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, is the only professional grand opera company in Bergen County and northern New Jersey.
