LAS VEGAS, NV, August 01, 2012 (Press-News.org) GarageGames, a leading developer of game engines and tools, announces Innovation Friday to spur employee creative thinking and cutting-edge projects. GarageGames hosts Innovation Friday with employees to give them an opportunity to be entrepreneurial at work with their own ideas. In addition, selected projects may be developed further and funded through Kickstarter, an alternative way of funding where fans of the project contribute funds to support development. This fan funding approach allows the community to participate in choosing which projects they find important.
How does Innovation Friday work? GarageGames gives full time employees an option to work one day each week to develop almost any project with company resources. Programmers, artists and game designers can work individually or as a team to develop and pitch a technology or game project. Employees are open to building up a team at GarageGames or to collaborate with people outside the company. For the most innovative ideas, GarageGames may undertake full development or the project may be taken by the employee to develop further on their own time. Projects may be licensed under an open source model such as MIT or Creative Commons.
"Innovation Friday starts now," states Eric Preisz, CEO of GarageGames. "This initiative gives all employees at GarageGames the chance to bring their ideas to the table, develop them with their peers and share progress with developers all over the world. We're excited about this program because it taps into the talent we have in our company, while giving them avenues to grow their ideas with resources they might not otherwise have."
GarageGames is a pioneer of low cost game technology for indies and small developers. The company sold their first commercial 3D engine for $100 over 10 years ago. The company continues to sell computer and mobile game development software and has a new product, 3 Step Studio, in development that helps aspiring developers create all types of products from action to card games.
