CLARE, IRELAND, November 01, 2012 (Press-News.org) The MapAlerter.com system is a free service for people who want to receive important service alerts from their local authority by text message, email, landline and social media, including Facebook and Twitter. The service has already been rolled out successfully in Counties Wexford, Carlow and Roscommon, as well as Waterford City.
"MapAlerter.com is a free multi-channel alert service that allows people to receive alerts from Limerick County Council when important events take place in their locality," explained Eugene Griffin, County Secretary, Limerick County Council.
"These events include major road accidents and incidents, floods, severe weather warnings, water service disruptions, boil water notices, road closures, planning lists, scheduled road works and closures, and community and sporting events. With the winter season now upon us, this service may prove very useful to members of the public," he added.
Mr. Griffin continued: "MapAlerter.com is a very simple and useful communications tool and as an organisation, Limerick County Council is looking to utilise it as much as possible. Accordingly, we would like to encourage members of the public to register with MapAlerter.com for a free account. To do this they simply go to http://www.MapAlerter.com and enter their details."
Brendan Cunningham, Managing Director of PinPoint Alerts, the Kilkenny-based company behind the free tool, explained that the benefits of the system are wide-ranging.
"With MapAlerter.com, you will only ever receive alerts for issues that affect you. We allow you to register two locations; Home and Work. So when the Council issues an alert for a given location MapAlerter checks to see who is affected. If you live within an affected region then you will receive an alert from a range of channels such as SMS, Email, Landline and Social Media. If you are not within an alert zone, then you receive nothing. The system will also benefit a neighbour who may not have any web or mobile access, as Landline Alerts are also available. Finally, MapAlerter.com's easy-to-use interface means that the registration process takes a few moments, and it is a simple task to update your alert preferences," he commented.
"This is a free service that is provided by Limerick County Council and MapAlerter.com. This means that there are no registration costs and there are no charges to receive SMS or Emails," Mr. Cunningham concluded.
