OTTAWA, ON, December 14, 2012 (Press-News.org) RocketOwl Inc., an Ottawa, ON based social & mobile game developer, today announced that every time a new person plays their eco-conscious social game GreenSpace, they will plant a tree in the real world! The small game company is reaching out to players everywhere to help plant an ambitious 250,000 trees in partnership with sustainable reforestation organization WeForest by the end of this year.
"We're calling on big media outlets, gamers around the world and anyone interested in saving our planet to spread the word and help us plant 250,000 trees by the end of this year," said Graeme Barlow, CEO RocketOwl. "By working together, we have the power to make our world a better place!"
Since its launch in late August, the Play2Plant program has moved thousands of GreenSpace players to work together, helping to address deforestation, which is an enormous threat to our global environment. "The goal that RocketOwl has set is a substantial one, planting 250,000 trees can create enough forest to change the lives of a small village. It creates real change in the environment and people's lives," said Avery Dorland, a forester and CFO at WeForest.
The Play2Plant program uses crowdsourcing, where a task or problem is outsourced to the public to achieve a goal, to contribute to solving environmental issues like deforestation. By planting trees on a large scale, RocketOwl is able to address carbon sequestration, water management, soil restoration, biodiversity and local economic development.
Through its efforts around GreenSpace, RocketOwl has committed to planting 10,000 trees to date. With this campaign, RocketOwl plans to make a huge impact on the environment using the power of play. To join the movement, new players simply need to play GreenSpace using this custom link*: http://apps.facebook.com/green-space/?rosourceid=2
