Tax Defense Network: Careers of Enrolled Agents

Enrolled agents are federally licensed tax professionals who are authorized by the United States Treasury to represent taxpayers before the IRS.

2013-01-23
JACKSONVILLE, FL, January 23, 2013 (Press-News.org) Enrolled agents are federally licensed tax professionals who are authorized by the United States Treasury to represent taxpayers before the IRS. When taxpayers require expert help in negotiating with the IRS, they take the help of enrolled agents.

Enrolled agents have unlimited practice rights before the IRS. They can choose to represent any taxpayer before the IRS on any tax issue. They can choose which IRS offices they represent their clients before, and which types of tax issues to focus on.

Tax Defense Network Careers: Credentials of an Enrolled Agent

Before taxpayers hire an enrolled agent, they should verify the credentials of the enrolled agent in order to make an informed decision. Enrolled agents must pass a three-part, comprehensive IRS exam, as well as a Special Enrollment Examination, which covers individual and business tax returns along with parts of the Internal Revenue Code. A background check is also conducted to make sure the agent is in compliance with the tax laws of the US.

After successfully passing the requirements to become an enrolled agent, the agent must adhere to a strict code of ethics, and complete 72 hours of continuing education courses every three years. Without following the guidelines set by the IRS, an enrolled agent will be stripped of their title, and also lose all rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS.

Currently, there are about 48,000 enrolled agents in the United States, according to the National Association of Enrolled Agents.

Tax Defense Network Careers: Importance of Enrolled Agents

Enrolled agents are required to resolve a tax case with their expertise in tax law and the IRS' policies. They use their excellent negotiation skills to achieve a beneficial result for taxpayers. To get the best tax resolution, enrolled agents analyze a tax case to weigh its weaknesses and advantages, circumstances, and what IRS programs the taxpayer qualifies for.

Enrolled agents have the ability to argue a case with the IRS to get the most advantageous resolution. Tax Defense Network, knowing the importance of enrolled agents, employs three enrolled agents in its Foxhound legal department.

Tax Defense Network Careers: Tax Debt & Enrolled Agents

When it comes to tax debt, taxpayers use the services of enrolled agents to:

• Reduce their tax debt
• Reduce or remove IRS penalties
• Qualify for an IRS debt payment plan
• Release a tax lien
• Release a tax levy
• Appeal to the IRS
• Final resolution of tax debt

Tax Defense Network has enrolled agents, tax attorneys, certified public accountants (CPAs), and an ex-IRS agent in its Foxhound legal department. They have participated in newspaper, television, and radio interviews to explain recent tax changes and give advice on various tax problems that taxpayers struggle with.
