ST. ALBERT, AB, CANADA, February 15, 2013 (Press-News.org) For a while now, trends in fiction reading have been changing. A growing number of adult readers have been gravitating towards books that you'd usually find under 'young adult'. It's so popular, a new crossover genre has emerged, known as "new adult. It's a genre that's fast gathering speed, and that established writer C. Elizabeth is excited to contribute to.
C. Elizabeth has been writing adult romance novels for several years. Her most recent outing, however, is a supernatural romance geared for a broad range of readers. Designed for adults, mature teens and young adult, Soul Control follows the journey of a seventeen-year-old girl as she uncovers the mystical roots of her family while struggling to come to terms with her own identity. The idea of appealing to a broader audience came naturally to Elizabeth.
"It's really not surprising that adults are gravitating to storylines that initially seem to be for younger readers, but in fact hold great appeal for adults. Harry Potter was a great example of this; there are certain themes that are eternal, that we can appreciate as youngsters all the way into the latter stages of our lives."
'New adult' books aim to fill a transitional gap between young adult and adult readers. C. Elizabeth points out though, that while publishers are keen to highlight a new categorization for books, that no reader should ever feel pinioned into reading any particular class of book.
"While I think it's useful to help younger readers uncover a more advanced level of writing, authors shouldn't be pigeon-holed. The fact is that with any book, readers at different periods in their lives will each take away something different from the text; our individual life experience will shape how we interpret the situations we uncover in the pages of the book."
Soul Control is available from Wings E-Press http://www.wings-press.com/ Information about C. Elizabeth and her other novels, Absolute Obsession and Absolute Obstruction, are available on her website at: http://www.celizabeth.ca
