LateRooms.com - Head to Cornwall for Rowing the Atlantic

Rowing the Atlantic will see rower Phil Pring discuss his eventful ocean crossing at Cornwall's National Maritime Museum.

2010-10-24
CORNWALL, ENGLAND, October 24, 2010 (Press-News.org) A tale of adventure on the high seas is coming up for people visiting the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth next month.

Holidaymakers staying in one of the luxury hotels Cornwall has to offer may want to make a note of Wednesday November 24th - the date Penzance man Phil Pring is due to give his talk Rowing the Atlantic.

Taking place at 18:30 GMT in the museum's lecture theatre, the event will see Pring tell the story of how he built his own boat to take part in the 2009 Atlantic Rowing Race.

Alongside fellow rower Ben 'Skippy' Cummings, he completed 2,999 miles of the gruelling challenge before getting into difficulty and seeing the vessel shipwrecked on an Antiguan reef, just one mile from the finish line.

Speaking to the Cornishman in March this year, Pring's brother Rob described the agonising moments when the duo's epic voyage looked set to go badly wrong.

"In the pitch black and rolling surf they mistook lights from the neighbouring bay for those from the harbour and were drawn further towards it," he explained.

"Both of them thought their days were numbered."

Standard tickets to hear the rower's fascinating story are priced at GBP8, while a two-course buffet is included for those willing to pay GBP18.

For more information on this event, visit the National Maritime Museum Cornwall website or contact the organisers on 01326 214546.
