General and Cosmetic Dentist In Naperville Gets To The Core Of Oral Health And Nutrition

Dr. Pirooz Zomorrodi, dentist in Naperville, IL, speaks out about the relationship between nutrition and oral health.

2014-04-10
NAPERVILLE, IL, April 10, 2014 (Press-News.org) "Enjoy the taste of eating right" is the theme for 2014's National Nutrition Campaign. In Naperville, dentist, Dr. Zomorrodi, adds one more tagline to the mix-Enjoy the taste of eating right, for your teeth.

"There are many delicious and nutritious food, but that doesn't mean they are all good for your teeth. Even some vegetables and fruits can harm your tooth enamel. That's why I think it is important to discuss healthy food and beverages for your teeth and body," explains Dr. Zomorrodi, Naperville cosmetic dentist.

Some fruit that are harsh on your enamel include tomatoes (yes, a fruit), oranges, grapefruit and lemons. They are high in acid, which is one the biggest problems for enamel. Once bacteria and acid start to reproduce, it leaves your teeth in a dangerous situation.

Green vegetables are a safe choice. Raw vegetables can pack the biggest punch of nutrients. You just need to be careful of hard food possibly putting too much pressure on the teeth. If you have weak teeth, there is a higher risk of chipping or loosening a tooth. Your family may find it more beneficial to steam vegetables and cut up hard fruits into bite size pieces. The easier to chew, the better for your teeth.

Lean protein, such as fish and chicken, are good to eat, as well as dairy product. They are natural saliva stimulates. The more saliva means the easier it is to wash away acid and sugar particles. Plus, natural dairy products like cheese and milk neutralize those acidic properties.

Nutrition is key, but it's not the only thing people should be worried about. Proper oral hygiene practices are what combat decay and gingivitis, as well as, people going to see the dentist for checkups.

Restorative Dental Treatment Helps Patients Achieve Long-Lasting Smiles

2014-04-10
When people think of health, they typically just think of general health, not the condition of the teeth and gums. Oral health is just as important as overall health because dental problems can negatively affect a patient's overall health. Patients are instructed to brush and floss their teeth on a daily basis, and this is to keep plaque bacteria at bay. However, bad oral hygiene only spurs further bacteria growth and the development of acid, which eats away at tooth enamel. Once tooth decay develops, a patient has already made a dent in his/her oral health. If a ...
