Wendy L. Ponka Honored for Success in Court Reporting and Transcribing

BELWOOD, ONTARIO, CANADA, April 18, 2014 (Press-News.org) Wendy Ponka, Chief Executive Officer of the International Institute for Transcribers and Court Reporters (IITCR), has been recognized by Worldwide Branding for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in her profession.

Ms. Ponka promotes professionalism in her IITCR graduates and in the industry that she loves so much. Raising the standards of court reporting has always been her passion, and it shows in her work. She has many years of professional experience in all levels of courts, tribunals, arbitrations, inquests, examinations, depositions, disciplinary hearings, examinations under oath, and legal transcription. She has assisted in the development of the "Civil Procedures Manual" and the "Criminal Procedures Manual" for use in courthouses throughout the province of Ontario. She has seen and embraced the transitions and evolution in court reporting methods, including Pitman shorthand, reel-to-reel recording, cassette recording, the steno-mask, voice-writing, and digital recording.

After beginning her court reporting career in British Columbia in 1975, Ms. Ponka relocated to Ontario in 1990. She has always provided training and mentoring to court reporters and legal transcriptionists. She established the Ponka Verbatim Reporting Services, a full-service court reporting and transcribing firm, in 2007.

Ms. Ponka's impressive work has enabled her to serve on numerous industry boards. She is the director, a member of the nominations committee, and the chair of the certification committee, and a member of the 2012 convention committee of the International Alliance of Professional Reporters and Transcribers. She is also the director and chair of the education and certification committee of the Court Reporters' Association of Ontario.
She has served on the faculty at Centennial College's School of Business in Toronto, delivering instruction and providing curriculum development in courses of the court support services program, including court monitor, digital court reporter, superior court registrar, civil/criminal, ethics and professional conduct, machine transcription, introduction to word processing, and communications. In recognition of all her accomplishments, she was recently inducted into Worldwide Branding.
