Danie Baard, CFO of Safika Oosthuizens Transport, Discusses How They Became a Major Player in the Coal Mining Transport Industry with African Business Review
2011-03-19
SAN DIEGO, CA, March 19, 2011 (Press-News.org) Safika Oosthuizens Transport was established in 1948 by Frik Oosthuizen, who had 'nothing more than a dream to improve his family's current standard of living, during the midst of the Depression.'

The company today is a far cry from the small transportation firm established in 1948; 90 percent of the company's focus is concentrated on coal and it transports between four and five million tonnes of coal per month between 12 depots in three African countries.

In 2005 Safika Holdings Ltd - a black empowerment group - bought into the business and they have since increased their holding to 60 percent, thus the company is now a 'black owned' company. With their input and guidance, the company has become one of the major players and market leaders in the coal market in South Africa.

Achieving exponential growth in the last few years, the company has grown from strength to strength explains Danie Baard, Chief Financial Officer at Safika Oosthuizens Transport. "In the last few years Oosthuizens has grown from being a small player in the coal mining transport industry to the biggest private coal hauler in South Africa."
