MINNEAPOLIS, MN, April 15, 2011
News Facts• Fishbowl Solutions, an Oracle Enterprise Content Management and WebCenter Specialized Gold Partner, announced the release of iOS Mobility Suite API for Oracle Universal Content Management (Oracle UCM). This API (application programming interface) provides organizations with a set of rules and specifications for the creation of custom applications that utilize Apple's mobile operating system to interface with Oracle UCM.
• Fishbowl's Mobile ECM application enables organizations to leverage managed content remotely. Using their iPhone or iPad, Oracle UCM users can perform similar content management tasks as if they were directly connected via their organization's local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN). These tasks include searching the Oracle UCM repository, accessing saved searches and subscriptions, emailing content, approving and rejecting workflows, and checking in images from the mobile device's camera or picture library.
• Access to enterprise content from mobile devices ensures that mobile workforces and users on the go are not impeded by an Internet connection to retrieve centrally stored information. Additionally, these same workers will no longer have to carry around printouts of that information or store copies to local drives on laptops, which both increase the propensity of referencing outdated information. Fishbowl's Mobile ECM application empowers users to make decisions both in and out of the office by delivering content through accessible and familiar mobile channels.
• Mobile devices and mobile applications have seen exponential growth over the last few years. Apple's iPhone has sold over 73 million units worldwide since its initial launch on June 24, 2007, while their iPad sold nearly 15 million units in 2010. Additionally, according to a report by GetJar, the world's second largest mobile applications store, the market for mobile applications will be worth $17.5 billon by 2012. The growth of mobile devices and mobile applications for those devices has seemed to cause a slowdown of personal computer (PC) sales. Recently, the analyst firm Gartner lowered its PC sales estimate from 406.6 to 387.8 million, which they predicted at the end of 2010.
• Although mobile devices have been more heavily adopted in the consumer market for personal use cases, there are numerous business uses cases for Mobile ECM as well. These include sales representatives sharing product images, videos and documentation with clients at customer sites, or insurance claims inspectors/adjudicators viewing claims from their mobile devices and then capturing any photos and filling out inspection forms. Traditional processes for both these business use cases involved a lot of paper and transcribing any notes into another system when they return to their office or are able to get online. With Mobile ECM, business users benefit with real-time access to the most accurate information that can be shared, edited and published directly from their mobile device.
• Fishbowl Solutions will be demonstrating the iOS Mobility Suite API for Oracle UCM in booth 1048 at the Collaborate conference. Billy Cripe, marketing and strategic alliance director, and Tim Otremba, director of software development at Fishbowl Solutions are also presenting "What Does Mobility Mean for Enterprise Content Management and Enterprise 2.0" on Wednesday, April 13 at 2:15 p.m.
