Don Thomas Sporthaus Welcomes Ingrid Backstrom and Kristi Leskinen To Birmingham Nov. 12

Daylong event to include showing of "Attack of La Nina," autographs by two pro-skiers and midnight madness extravaganza

2011-10-22
FARMINGTON HILLS, MI, October 22, 2011 (Press-News.org) Don Thomas Sporthaus (The Sporthaus), the Birmingham, Mich., based premier retailer of skis, snowboards and winter sports equipment and apparel, is presenting "Attack of La Niña" from Matchstick Productions (MSP) on Saturday, November 12 at Birmingham 8 (211 South Old Woodward Ave.) in downtown Birmingham at 8:00 pm. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, November 12, the top ranked mountain skier, Ingrid Backstrom, and Freestyle Skier and Faction Team Rider Kristi Leskinen will be at The Sporthaus from noon to 2 p.m. to sign autographs for fans.

Backstrom, who is currently touring for North Face, has placed first at numerous freeskiing championships throughout the world and was the only female included in Powder magazine's "11 Future Big Mountain Heroes." Leskinen, a Pennsylvania native, has been ranked 11th by Men's Health as the hottest female athlete of 2011, and in 2009 Freeskier named her one of the seven most influential female skiers.

A recap of one of the longest and deepest North American winters, "Attack of La Niña" chronicles how the weather phenomenon affected skiing with deep snow and epic conditions making it hard to enjoy the outdoors too far away. It delves deeper into zones explored in the past and those never thought of as possibilities before. The film includes a mix of high-definition camera work and awe-inspiring footage from slow motion Phantom cameras, heli-mounted Cineflex rigs and high-end point-of-view camera angles.

Filmed in various locations including Alaska, British Columbia, Colorado, California and Washington, the cast includes Sean Pettit, Bobby Brown, Mark Abma, Henrik Windstedt, Richard Permin, Gus Kenworthy, Eric Hjorleifson, Ingrid Backstrom, Russ Henshaw, Colby West, James Heim, Cody Townsend, Rory Bushfield, Callum Pettit, Job Wester, Alex Schlopy and Torin Yater-Wallace.

"Although snow may not be on the ground yet, metro Detroit's skiing community will definitely get an early taste of winter during 'Attack of La Niña'," said Steve Kopitz, president and SKI-EO of The Sporthaus. "The experience is only going to be further enhanced by the chance to meet Ingrid Backstrom and Kristi Leskinen. Both have been influential to so many freestyle skiers."

A midnight madness sale will follow the movie from 9:30 p.m. to midnight at The Sporthaus. The event will include a 10 percent off sale on all merchandise, an autograph signing with Backstrom and Leskinen, marshmallow fire pit outside the store and snacks and refreshments. The evening will be capped off with an auction of pro skier merchandise, with all proceeds going to the Shane McConkey Foundation, which carries on the legacy of the pro skier through random acts of kindness and charitable giving. It also seeks to inspire others to make a difference in the world.

Tickets are required and can be purchased at Don Thomas Sporthaus for $12.00 or for $15.00 at the door. Seating is limited. Don Thomas Sporthaus is located at 690 S. Old Woodward in Birmingham.
